A Bit About Lia Jessen
Owner, Tainer and Head Lesson Instructor!
Lia began her riding career with her mom in a pasture in Toddville Iowa. Though it wasn't her first ride, it was her official first lesson. Her mom taught her the basics and sent her to learn from Olympian Bestsy Coaster of Iowa. Throughout her time with Betsey, Lia learned Dressage, Hunter Jumper, and a bit of Eventing. Competition in The Pony Club of America fueled her fire to show.
Growing up she rode with friends through corn fields, rain and snow storms, played in creeks and rivers just living the ultimate little girl with horses dream.
Lia began training horses in 1996 at the age of 17 with Tennesse Walking Horse Trainer Tom Burton. Showing all over the mid-west, she learned the ins and outs of the Tennessee Walker Horse breed.
In 2005, Lia changed disciplines to All Around Performance Horses. Showing in APHA, AQHA, ApHC, PtCH, and WDAA. Winning multiple All Around Awards to include 2 Reserve Congress titles and 2 Reserve All Around Congress titles at the World Wide Paint Horse Congress in 2015.
Recently she took one on one lessons from a trainer she long admired and learn so much more. With a new found focus on suppleness and engagement, we tread in to the future.
Lia continues to learn and grow learning from the best names in the business. Consistently evolving in to a better horsewoman is her ultimate goal. She enjoys showing her horses and a good long trail ride in the mountains. However, passing what she has learned on to the next coming horseman/woman is her most favorite part of the job!
Lia chalks up her success in the show pen to two amazing horses. Snap E Commander aka Sully who in his life time has won over 900 lifetime APHA points and has been an absolute asset to the show program of FWPH. As well as Chase Me Baby aka Chaser who is the epitome of the all around horse. If you can think of the discipline, Chaser has done it and been successful. With out these two foundation horses we would not be where we are. Thank you boys, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
